With the popularity of poker these days, and the Millionaire Balls publicized event, many people are getting into Poker. One of the most common mistakes made by newcomers to the game is playing too many hands. In fact, this can be a poker tell that almost anyone can do, it’s just a matter of observance.

Lets take an example of some common mistakes, that even Dewapoker seasoned players can make:
When playing hands, people like to speculate and draw painted cards. They like to play with hands such as 5-7 suited or something, that look nice and rounded. However, these hands when they are played properly, can be good hands worth a bit of money.
The problem with these hands is that they are unlikely to win the poker hand that you are playing, so you need to make a judgement call first. Such hands as 5-7 suited have the potential to win, but you haven’t made the right judgement call yet.
The next thing to look at is if theres any draws on the board that could beat your hand. Lets say there is a flush draw and a straight draw out there. If there were two cards of the flush and one of the cards was possibly the lowest card in your hand, you can feel good about your hand because you have a shot at the flush.
You also need to consider the possibility of someone having a better hand than you. If there are two players in the hand that share the same high card, then you need to make a decision based on probability. Although luck plays a part in Poker, probability tells us that you will win slightly more often than you will lose.
If you are a beginner at Poker, you should consider spending some time playing free poker on the internet before you start to play money games with real money. If you just learn the rules and never play anything but low stakes, you will have some experience well before you have learned the knack of the game.
There is one commonfundamental theorem that everyone seems to know’em but’ they never seem to apply it to their game of poker. The theory is that the more people you play against, the better your odds. However, the same cannot be said for the many inexperienced, or ‘newbies’ in the game.
The theory is best explained by this depending on the odds:
Say there are 1,000 people playing in a casino. The odds for every player of the outcome of the hand are 1 in 1,000. So the odds say that if 1,000 new people came into the casino, they would all win the hand at once.
On the other hand, if 1,000 different people came into the casino, they would not all win the hand at once. Each person would have to wait for their turn and the dealer would deal hands until everyone had either lost, or stopped to play.
The point is that, just because you may be fortunate enough to win a hand now and again, doesn’t mean that you will be guaranteed to win a hand. The whole point of the game is that you are taking the casino as a bluff, not committing your entire stack to any one bet.
If this is the type of hand you are chasing, you can comfortably bet the minimum or no bet. The house doesn’t mind you betting low if you are consistently drawing a lot of cards. (This is also why red and black are favourable numbers).
However if the cards are not coming, they are going to bet more aggressively to get rid of you. If you are betting low, and drawing badly, don’t hand over your chips until you are sure you have the best hand.
A good way of implementing this is to pick a denomination, such as out of eights, and practice counting them. If you are happy with doubling your money when you hit a pair of eights, then you can bet this amount with confidence. If you win, then you can add the winnings to the original amount you were playing, and pocket the rest.
Now you know! Remember, learn how to play poker the right way.
